Full-scale Launch of Night Market Operations
in Connection with the Local Commercial District
Gumi City in North Gyeongsang Province held a "Food Seller Evaluation Fair" at Gumi University on the 20th to ensure the successful operation of the soon-to-open "Gumi Sweet Romantic Night Market."
This evaluation fair was organized to verify the taste and quality of the night market foods that will be offered at Gumi Saemaeul Central Market and Indong Market, and to provide a differentiated culinary experience. It also holds significant meaning in terms of revitalizing the local commercial district and supporting small business owners.
Presenting Competitive Food Offerings: The evaluation fair featured 23 teams who passed document and interview screenings among applicants recruited from February 19 to March 4. The panel of judges consisted of eight members, including representatives from traditional market merchant associations, heads of related organizations, and university professors, who conducted direct tasting evaluations.
The judging criteria included taste and creativity, visual appeal and completeness, hygiene and safety, as well as popularity and competitiveness.
In particular, global trends such as K-food and halal food were also reflected, considering international visitors in connection with the "Gumi Asian Athletics Championships."
Participants presented a variety of menus such as beef udon stir-fry, stir-fried gopchang sundae, chadol odeuregi, fried kodari, fried pufferfish, and pho. Sellers who are finally selected through the evaluation fair will have the opportunity to officially open their stalls with the launch of the night market.
Park Younghee, head of Gumi City's Job Economy Division, stated, "We will create a competitive night market together with thoroughly vetted food sellers," and added, "We will continue to introduce differentiated content to vitalize the local economy and make the night market a popular nighttime tourist attraction."
Meanwhile, this year's "Gumi Sweet Romantic Night Market" will be held every Friday and Saturday at Gumi Saemaeul Central Market from April 25 to May 17, and at Indong Market from May 23 to 24 and from May 27 to 31.
In addition to a variety of foods, the night market will also feature busking performances, flea markets, and hands-on programs, offering a wealth of cultural content expected to contribute to revitalizing the local economy and developing the tourism industry.
