Creative Ideas Incorporating Jeju Language and Culture Invited
Document Submission Begins April 28... New Student Category Introduced
Jeju Special Self-Governing Province is hosting the 28th Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Tourism Souvenir Contest to discover unique and distinctive tourism souvenirs that symbolize Jeju.
This contest, organized by Jeju Province and supervised by the Jeju Tourism Association (President Kang Donghun), aims to discover attractive tourism souvenirs that incorporate Jeju language, as well as the island’s culture, history, and natural characteristics.
In particular, there are high expectations for the development of various products such as T-shirts and neckties that utilize Jeju language. To allow participants ample time to prepare their works, Jeju Province has extended the contest period from the previous five weeks to seven weeks.
The contest period runs from March 20 to May 9. Document submissions will be accepted from April 28 to May 9, and only those who pass the document screening will be allowed to submit their actual works from May 28 to 30.
The contest consists of three categories: General, Premium, and Student Idea. This year, the "Student Idea" category has been newly established to discover creative ideas from young students.
The general product category targets products priced under 100,000 won that can be produced immediately and sold to domestic and international tourists. The premium category targets products priced over 100,000 won suitable as high-end gifts or decorative items.
For the General and Premium categories, judging will be based on symbolism, marketability, design, creativity, and practicality, with a combination of public evaluation and three rounds of expert review. A total of 11 works will be selected (10 general, 1 premium). For the Student Idea category, two winning works will be chosen through an initial expert document screening.
Jeju Province plans to actively support the award-winning works with product development funding and entry into both online and offline distribution platforms. The total prize money amounts to 16.5 million won, with the Grand Prize in the General category receiving 5 million won and the Gold Prize 3 million won. The final results are scheduled to be announced in July. In last year’s 27th contest, 123 works were submitted and 11 were selected as winners.
Kim Heechan, Director of Tourism Exchange at Jeju Province, stated, "Jeju tourism souvenirs are an important medium for promoting Jeju’s unique culture and identity both domestically and internationally," and added, "We ask for your interest and participation so that souvenirs can be discovered that evoke fond memories for tourists and make them want to visit Jeju again."
Details regarding participation in the contest can be found on the Legislative/Notice/Announcement board of the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province website and the Community board of the Jeju Tourism Association website.
