Moves Arms and Legs Freely
Capable of Handstands and Side Turns
Boston Dynamics, a robotics subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Group, has released a video showing the humanoid robot Atlas moving like a human.
In the video released on the 20th, Atlas performs various movements such as walking slowly, walking quickly, standing on its hands, and turning sideways. It freely moves its arms and legs, crawls on the floor, and kneels. It also performs impressive breakdancing moves.
Boston Dynamics explained that in the video, Atlas demonstrates advanced reinforcement learning training developed using references such as human motion capture. They added, "This was conducted as part of a research partnership between Boston Dynamics and the Robotics & Artificial Intelligence (RAI) Institute."
Meanwhile, Boston Dynamics signed a partnership with the Robotics and AI Institute (RAI) in February to develop humanoid robots based on reinforcement learning. They are currently conducting tests with the goal of deploying Atlas on a trial basis at Hyundai Motor Group’s production sites by the end of this year.
On the 5th (local time), they also released a video showing the AI learning process of the humanoid robot "All New Atlas," which is set to be deployed in production sites.
