Gwangju Civil Society Calls for Yoon's Dismissal, Urges Gathering at Democracy Plaza on Saturday

Emergency Meeting Held Amid Delays in Constitutional Court's Impeachment Trial
"Let Us Unite as Citizens and Deliver a Message of Hope"

As the Constitutional Court's ruling on the impeachment trial of President Yoon Sukyeol is being delayed, the civil society in Gwangju is taking to the streets. The 'Gwangju Community of Citizens, Government, and Politics Urging the Prompt Dismissal of Yoon Sukyeol,' which includes local civic groups, heads of local governments, and political figures in Gwangju, is calling for a massive turnout of citizens at the rally demanding his dismissal, to be held on the 22nd at the May 18 Democracy Square.

On the 20th, the Gwangju Community held an emergency countermeasure meeting and a press conference at Jeonil Building 245 in Dong-gu, Gwangju, stating, "Let us gather at Democracy Square this Saturday to put an end to the current situation," and adding, "Let us inspire courage in citizens across the country with the Gwangju spirit and deliver a message of hope to the weary people."

They also continued their criticism towards the Constitutional Court. The community said, "While the Constitutional Court delays the dismissal ruling, the patience of the people has reached its limit," and added, "The people are waiting for a prompt decision to dismiss the president in order to resolve this unconstitutional rebellion." They continued, "The Constitutional Court must not demand further patience from the people and must fulfill its ultimate responsibility to resolve this rebellion," and urged, "Dismiss the ringleader of the rebellion, Yoon Sukyeol, as soon as possible."
