Sentencing Scheduled for 10 a.m. on May 1
The prosecution has requested a prison sentence of 3 years and 6 months for rapper Sik-K (real name Kwon Min-sik, 31), who confessed to the police that he used drugs.
The Seoul Western District Court Criminal Division 7 (Chief Judge Ma Seong-yeong) held a trial on the 20th for Kwon, who is charged with violating the Narcotics Control Act (marijuana).
The prosecution stated, "The defendant is a well-known rapper widely recognized by the public and exerts significant influence on youth, thus bearing a heavier moral responsibility than others. Nevertheless, despite having a prior suspended sentence for a similar drug offense, he reoffended, indicating a poor nature of the crime," explaining the reason for the sentence request.
Kwon's defense attorney said, "The defendant is not a habitual drug user and has not committed distribution or any worse crimes. Please consider that the defendant voluntarily surrendered and the investigation was conducted accordingly."
Kwon said, "In nearly 30 years of my life, I don't think I've ever been as ashamed as I am now. If given a chance to make amends to my family and company members whom I have hurt, I will live with remorse from now on."
Kwon was brought to trial on charges of using ketamine and ecstasy between October 1 and 9, 2023. He is also charged with smoking marijuana on January 11 and possessing marijuana on January 13 of last year.
The sentencing date for Kwon is scheduled for 10 a.m. on May 1.
