On the 20th, Yangju City announced at the 'Education Development Special Zone Pilot Area Performance Report Meeting' held at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Gwangju, Jeollanam-do, that the pilot project for integrated childcare vouchers, jointly promoted with the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, was selected as an exemplary case. This event was hosted and organized by the Ministry of Education and the Presidential Committee on Local Autonomy.
At this performance report meeting, 17 local governments were selected as excellent areas among 56 Education Development Special Zone local governments nationwide (7 metropolitan and 83 basic local governments). These local governments will receive additional points in future performance management evaluations.
The project selected as an exemplary case in Yangju City is "Development of the Yangju-type Integrated Childcare Innovation Model to Realize Equality at the Starting Line of Early Life."
This project is a collaboration among four institutions: Yangju City, Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, Dongducheon Yangju Office of Education, and the Korea Social Security Information Service. It is the first in the nation to develop and pilot a unified cost support structure for integrated childcare. Through this, the dual financial support system for kindergartens and daycare centers is integrated, and a demand-centered cost system is established to provide parents with education and childcare costs equally in the form of vouchers.
Currently, participating institutions are accelerating system development, and once completed, this pilot project will be the only one nationwide without disparities in education and childcare costs. Through this, Yangju City plans to further solidify its foundation as a "child-friendly city."
Meanwhile, since being selected as a pilot area for the Education Development Special Zone in February last year, Yangju City has been actively promoting projects aimed at "a livable Yangju City through the co-growth of urban and rural areas, education, and industry," including ▲establishing the Yangju-type integrated childcare and care leading model ▲cultivating AI-specialized talents tailored to Yangju ▲fostering local talents for settlement through public education innovation and university-linked entrepreneurship education.
Mayor Kang Su-hyun of Yangju City said, "Through this award, the efforts made by Yangju City, together with the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education and Dongducheon Yangju Office of Education, to realize the vision of public education innovation and a future education city have been nationally recognized. We will continue to do our best in public education innovation and nurturing future talents so that all citizens can receive necessary educational opportunities in a timely manner."
