Last month, the city prepared improvements for the commuter bus operation, including ▲route integration ▲additional stops at bus stops ▲adjustment of school commute routes ▲introduction of eco-friendly hydrogen buses, and began operation on the 4th. As a result of this reorganization, the commuter bus usage rate significantly increased, reaching full capacity every day during school hours.

From the 4th to the 17th, a total of 3,638 students used the commuter bus, with an average of 372 users per day. This is more than double the previous year’s daily average of 173. In particular, due to the adjustment of the after-school route, the number of students using the bus after school increased about threefold to an average of 139 per day, compared to 48 the previous year.

On this day, Mayor Kim Dong-geun greeted students waiting for the 01-A bus at the Gosan Centreville stop and checked the usage status. He then boarded the hydrogen bus, the first of its kind introduced in Uijeongbu City, engaged in direct conversations with students, listened to their opinions about the commuter bus, and inspected any inconveniences.

A student from Uijeongbu Girls’ High School who boarded the bus said, “Running the bus twice during school hours has made mornings much more relaxed, and above all, the waiting time for the bus after school has been reduced to within 5 minutes, which is really convenient.”

A student from Gyeongmin High School said, “Since our school’s start time is earlier than others, it was difficult to use the bus before, but now the stop order has been adjusted to match the school start time, so I can use it every day, and it’s nice to be able to get off in front of the Minrak-dong academy after school.”

Mayor Kim Dong-geun said, “I feel great satisfaction seeing that the route reorganization has greatly improved the convenience for students. We will continue to strive to create a user-centered commuter bus environment that connects schools, academies, and homes comfortably and safely.”

Meanwhile, following the route reorganization, the city plans to sign an agreement with Kakao Corporation starting in April to introduce ultra-precise location information services. Through this, the commuter bus routes can be checked in real time on mobile phones, which is expected to greatly enhance convenience for students and parents.
