Gyeonggi Office of Education Creates Color Design Educational Environment... Produces Guidelines

The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education is producing a ‘Color Universal Design Guideline’ to create a color design educational environment where everyone can learn without discrimination.

Color Universal Design is a color design concept created from the user’s perspective to consider people with diverse thoughts and to deliver accurate information to as many people as possible.

This month, the Office of Education established a ‘School New Construction Task Force’ and is promoting new construction projects for public schools up to high school level. This guideline is the first project and an important first step toward realizing schools designed for everyone.

The guideline focuses on systematically establishing color design for newly constructed schools as the need for ‘Color Universal Design’ to create an inclusive learning environment increases in line with global educational trends.

Through this, all students, including those with visual impairments within educational facilities, will be supported to easily perceive information and have equal learning opportunities.

The main contents include ▲analysis of domestic and international cases applying ‘Color Universal Design’ ▲development of color design by educational space ▲graphic design drafting ▲development of school environment analysis checklists ▲development of representative designs unique to newly constructed schools in Gyeonggi-do.

Previously, the ‘Educational Facilities Color Book’ published last year has received great attention with over 200,000 cumulative views on the Gyeonggi Education e-book website (ebook.goe.go.kr). This guideline is the second color research project by the Office of Education, further developing the previous work.

An official from the Office of Education said, "Through differentiated designs in Gyeonggi schools’ new constructions applying this guideline, we will strive to further improve the quality of school environments and establish them as the best educational spaces within the local community."
