Fostering Specialized Talent through e-Battery Track Operation
Providing Field-Oriented Educational Opportunities and Enhancing Practical Skills

Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Lim Ki-chul) announced on the 20th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with POSCO Future M Co., Ltd. to foster local talent in the field of secondary battery materials.
The signing ceremony, held on the 19th in the main conference room of GIST's administration building, was attended by President Lim Ki-chul, Vice President for Research Jung Sung-ho, Vice President for External Affairs Jung Yong-hwa, Director of External Cooperation Kim Jae-gwan, Professor Eom Kwang-seop from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, and other GIST officials, as well as POSCO Future M's Director of Technology Research Center Hong Young-jun, Head of HR and Culture Group Nam Eun-sil, Head of Research Planning Group Kim Byung-hwan, Deputy Manager Park Sung-heum, and about 10 other representatives from both organizations.
Through this agreement, the two institutions plan to strengthen industry-academia cooperation, promote mutual development, and work closely together for the advancement of the local community.
The MOU includes mutual exchanges in five areas: ▲ operation of the GIST-POSCO Future M e-Battery Track to nurture specialized talent in secondary battery materials ▲ support for student tuition, scholarships, and faculty research project funds when selecting scholarship students ▲ support for educational programs for scholarship students (such as site visits and internship programs) ▲ active exchange and cooperation (joint use of facilities and equipment, both paid and free of charge) ▲ cooperation in joint industry-academia research (research exchange meetings, industry-academia cooperation seminars).
Based on this MOU, GIST plans to focus on nurturing core talent in the secondary battery sector, which is one of the national strategic technologies. In particular, by linking with local governments and utilizing its research capabilities, GIST will concentrate on developing next-generation battery technologies and fostering specialized professionals.
POSCO Future M will support scholarship students with tuition and scholarships during their degree programs and plans to hire them as research and technical personnel after graduation. In addition, the company will actively support the enhancement of practical skills by providing field-oriented educational opportunities such as internship programs and site visits to major business locations during students' studies.
Lim Ki-chul, President of GIST, stated, "Through close cooperation with POSCO Future M, we will further accelerate the nurturing of core talent in the secondary battery materials field," adding, "By systematically fostering practical professionals required by the industry, we expect to contribute not only to the local community but also to strengthening the future competitiveness of the national battery industry."
Hong Young-jun, Director of the Technology Research Center at POSCO Future M, said, "We are very pleased to collaborate with GIST, which is emerging as a world-class research-oriented university," adding, "We will do our utmost to lead global materials technology and nurture talent who will contribute to the betterment of humanity."
