$120 Million in Agricultural and Fisheries Food Exports
Strong Export Performance in the US, Japan, and China
Up 20.4% Year-on-Year as of February

Jeollanam-do announced on the 20th that the export value of agricultural and fisheries food products reached $120 million from January to February this year, a 20.4% increase compared to the same period last year. This far exceeds the national average growth rate (8.4%), and the growth is attributed to exports of gim (seaweed) and beverages.
By February, Jeollanam-do's gim exports amounted to $59.458 million, a 26.7% increase from the same period last year, accounting for 51.2% of the region's total agricultural and fisheries exports. In particular, seasoned gim recorded the highest export value at $35.266 million, a 31.2% increase from last year.
Beverage exports also surged. Due to increased demand from Japan (185.0%), China (95.9%), and the Philippines, exports rose by 80.1% year-on-year to $6.47 million. Notably, fruit juice exports to Japan and China increased by 185.0% and 117.3%, respectively, leading the overall growth.
By country, exports of Jeollanam-do's agricultural and fisheries food products increased in major markets such as the United States (49.6%), Russia (20.9%), Japan (10.3%), and China (5.3%).
Exports to the United States totaled $24.63 million, with gim up 61.1%, beverages up 13.9%, and pears up 7.5%. In Japan, gim, abalone, and beverages were the main growth items. In China, gim and powdered milk showed notable growth as key export items. In Russia, demand increased with gim up 92.8% and fermented sauces up 19.8%.
Processed agricultural and fisheries products, as well as livestock and forestry products, also increased. Exports of fresh agricultural products from Jeollanam-do rose by 63.4% compared to last year, while livestock and forestry products (21.6%) and fisheries products (22.7%) also showed upward trends.
Shin Hyungon, Director of International Cooperation for Jeollanam-do, said, "The global competitiveness of Jeollanam-do's agricultural and fisheries food products, such as gim and beverages, is increasing, with especially remarkable growth in the US and Japanese markets. We will continue to focus on expanding sales channels and enhancing brand value in major export markets."
