Jeollanam-do will urgently allocate 300 million won from the disaster management fund to 12 areas, including 10 cities and counties at the severe stage of foot-and-mouth disease and 2 cities and counties where quarantine measures equivalent to the severe stage are being implemented, following consecutive outbreaks in Yeongam and Muan.
The current severe stage areas are Yeongam, Muan, Naju, Hwasun, Jangheung, Gangjin, Haenam, Mokpo, Hampyeong, and Shinan. The quasi-severe stage areas are Yeonggwang and Jindo.
Kim Yung-rok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, ordered at an emergency quarantine countermeasure video conference on the 15th to mobilize all available personnel to complete vaccination in the shortest possible time. He also instructed the assignment of dedicated officials to check twice daily and to ensure that clinical examinations are completed for other cloven-hoofed animals besides cattle.
He emphasized systematic quarantine management through the standardization of quarantine protocols and instructed that all possible support be provided, including the deployment of public veterinarians and allowing self-vaccination.
In response, Jeollanam-do has decided to directly support cities and counties with the costs of vaccination, quarantine, and disinfectants by urgently allocating the disaster management fund to prevent further horizontal transmission and spread.
Kang Young-gu, Director of the Jeollanam-do Provincial Safety Office, stated, "With the determination that there should be no further outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease, we have urgently allocated the disaster management fund to ensure we do not miss the golden time for blocking quarantine," and requested, "Cities and counties should do their utmost to swiftly carry out vaccination and intensive disinfection to block the spread."
Jeollanam-do is holding daily video conferences with cities and counties to review the progress of quarantine measures to prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease, as additional outbreaks have occurred in surrounding areas within a short period and suspected cases continue to be reported.
