by Fostering Professional Disability Activity Support Workers

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) has been newly designated as a training institution for disability activity support workers in the northeastern area of Seoul starting in 2025.
Disability activity support workers provide services such as household assistance and accompaniment for outings to people with disabilities who have difficulties carrying out daily activities. They play a role beyond simple care by supporting the independence of people with disabilities and improving their quality of life. To become a disability activity support worker, one must complete 50 hours of training designated by the Minister of Health and Welfare at an authorized training institution.
With Gwangjin-gu newly designated as a training institution this year, it is now possible to provide high-quality services to people with disabilities by fostering professional support workers through continuous educational programs.
The social welfare corporation Wolha Welfare Foundation, selected as the training institution, also operates the ‘Gwangjin Disabled Care Center,’ a service provider for disability activity support. This allows for practical training linked to rich field experience after completing theoretical education.
The Seoul Gwangjin Disability Activity Support Worker Training Institution is located at 202, 34 Gwangnaru-ro 20-gil, Gwangjin-gu, and is a 7-minute walk from Children’s Grand Park Station on Subway Line 7.
Residents who wish to become disability activity support workers can apply by phone or through the Seoul Gwangjin Disability Activity Support Worker Training Institution website.
Additionally, Gwangjin-gu operates eight disability activity support service providers to enhance the independent living skills of people with disabilities and expand their participation in the local community. If disability activity support services are needed, one can check the providers on the website and apply by phone.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “Helping the independence and social participation of people with disabilities is an important task that our community must undertake together. We will do our best to provide higher quality services by fostering professional support workers through this designation as a training institution.”
