Charges Recognized and Sent to Prosecution After Complaint Filed
"An Argument Appears to Have Occurred During the Drinking Party"
A former member of the National Assembly was handed over to the prosecution on charges of assaulting a journalist from a media company during an argument at a drinking party.
On the 19th, the Gyeyang Police Station in Incheon announced that they had sent former Assemblyman A (62), who was booked without detention on assault charges, to the prosecution. Former Assemblyman A is accused of assaulting journalist B from a certain media company once at a restaurant in Bupyeong-gu around 8 p.m. on January 22.
Earlier, journalist B filed a complaint stating, "Former Assemblyman A used abusive and informal language during the drinking party, and when I tried to stop him, he assaulted my head." Based on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the scene and other evidence, the police judged that the assault charges were valid and sent former Assemblyman A to the prosecution on the 12th. A police official said, "It appears that an argument broke out during the drinking party," but added, "We cannot disclose specific investigation details."
