Proposal Urging Prompt Action Sent to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Ministry of Justice
The Gyeongnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry Council has submitted a proposal to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Ministry of Justice, calling for the establishment of new divisions and the expansion of the organization at the Changwon Immigration Office.
This proposal comes in response to the rapid increase in administrative demand related to foreigners and ongoing requests to strengthen the region's industrial competitiveness, urging the prompt expansion of the Changwon Immigration Office's organization.
In the proposal, the Gyeongnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry stated, "The Gyeongnam region, which is centered on manufacturing, continues to see a growing demand for foreign workers due to aging and the reluctance of domestic workers to take on manufacturing site jobs. In the jurisdiction of the Changwon Immigration Office, 59.2% of registered foreigners (compared to 31.3% nationwide) hold employment visas (E-1 to E-10) for economic activity, making it a region with a high proportion of such visas." They added, "As industrial productivity is the core capability in Gyeongnam, the recruitment of foreign workers is increasing, which in turn is leading to a surge in administrative demand at the Changwon Immigration Office."
The Gyeongnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry Council emphasized the need to expand the organization of the Changwon Immigration Office by establishing new divisions to ensure responsible administration and supplementing personnel to handle increasingly complex, diversified, and specialized immigration and visa services.
Choi Jaeho, Chairman of the Gyeongnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry Council, stated, "The stable inflow and management of foreign workers is a very important issue for the growth and competitiveness of the Gyeongnam region's industries." He added, "As the role of foreign labor is growing in key industries such as shipbuilding, machinery, and in the agricultural and fisheries sectors, we hope this proposal will be promptly adopted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Ministry of Justice, contributing to revitalizing the regional economy and preventing population decline."
