Jeju Special Self-Governing Province is setting a new standard for safe tourism for school trips. The province is actively operating the "Safe School Trip Service" to ensure the safety of school groups visiting Jeju.

The province supports students' safe travel by conducting pre-safety inspections of accommodations, restaurants, and experience facilities used by school groups, eliminating potential risks in advance to provide a secure environment.

This year, the province aims to receive applications from about 1,100 elementary, middle, and high schools nationwide and plans to conduct safety inspections on approximately 5,000 accommodations, restaurants, and experience facilities requested by school groups. So far, 134 schools have applied for pre-safety inspections at 880 locations.

Through the Safe School Trip Service, the province is focusing on establishing a system for preventing and responding quickly to safety accidents in cooperation with four local fire stations, administrative cities, Korea Electrical Safety Corporation, and Korea Gas Safety Corporation. In addition, by collaborating with the Autonomous Police Force and Korea Airports Corporation, the province plans to reduce airport congestion during arrivals and departures and strengthen safety management.

In particular, for school groups using passenger ships, the province is enhancing the "Passenger Ship One-Stop Service" in cooperation with the Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority. Along with passenger ship safety inspections, maritime safety education for students is being expanded to ensure thorough safety management during sea travel.

The Safe School Trip Service, first introduced in 2014 as the nation's first, has been used by over 9,200 schools and approximately 1.65 million people to date. During this process, about 50,000 accommodations and restaurants have been inspected, and over 4,000 risk factors have been corrected, contributing to creating a safer environment for school trips.

Going forward, the province plans to expand convenience by collaborating with the Jeju website and education offices nationwide so that school groups can more easily apply for services and access safety information.

Cho Sangbeom, Director of Safety and Health for Jeju Province, stated, "We will establish a more systematic and innovative safety management system to prioritize the safety of school groups," adding, "We will further strengthen cooperation with related organizations to ensure that not a single safety accident occurs."

Meanwhile, on the 28th of last month, Jeju Province signed a "Business Agreement for Educational Cooperation for a Sustainable Future" with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, promising support for safe school trips to Jeju for students from Seoul.
