Yangsan City, Gyeongnam Province, will conduct an emergency mass vaccination for cattle and goats in the area to prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease following an outbreak in Yeongam County, Jeonnam Province, on the 14th.
The mass vaccination was originally scheduled to begin on April 1, but the schedule was moved up for a swift response to the outbreak. The vaccination campaign started on the 14th, when the first case was reported in Yeongam, Jeonnam, and is planned to be completed by the 31st.
Yangsan City plans to mobilize public veterinarians to complete vaccination for 3,150 hoofed animals, including cattle, goats, and deer, at 229 farms. This measure aims to prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease in the region and minimize damage to local livestock farms.
Son Hoyoung, head of the Animal Protection Division, stated, "Foot-and-mouth disease is a highly contagious disease that requires a rapid response. We will do our utmost to ensure all farms thoroughly implement preventive vaccination to preemptively block the occurrence of foot-and-mouth disease in the area."
