Ssangsu Bridge Railing Removed on the Way to Baegun Elementary School
A Safe School Route for Children Created with New Road Pavement and Crosswalk
Dobong-gu (District Mayor Oh Eon-seok) removed the railing of Ssangsu Bridge located on the way to Baegun Elementary School.
Currently, part of the bridge railing has been removed and replaced with a safe school route for children. It was a moment when a long-standing resident request was resolved after 7 years.
Since the construction of Ssangsu Bridge in 2018, elementary students of Baegun Elementary and residents had to share the road with vehicles, always exposed to the risk of traffic accidents.
Although construction was necessary, there were several difficulties. Safety had to be ensured due to the reinforcement of the cantilever pedestrian bridge (deck) and railing removal, and related regulations had to be addressed.
Since last year, the district has actively worked to solve these issues. Joint bridge inspections were conducted with external experts. The site was thoroughly analyzed, and efforts were made to secure the structural safety of the bridge.
Afterward, a perfect construction method was found, and construction began in February this year, completing the work by the end of February before Baegun Elementary's new semester. The road pavement design was redone, and a new crosswalk was created.
Residents welcomed the change. A parent of a Baegun Elementary student said, “I was anxious sending my child to school alone, but now I feel relieved.”
Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “This construction has greatly improved the road environment around Baegun Elementary School,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to create safe school routes for elementary students.”
