The area around Jangwi 12 District in Seoul has been designated as an Urban Public Housing Complex District, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 19th.
The Urban Public Housing Complex Project is a method led by the public sector to quickly supply housing by granting benefits such as floor area ratio to old urban areas where private redevelopment is difficult, in order to expand housing supply within the city. The Jangwi 12 District designated this time was previously designated as a planned district in October last year.

Subsequently, more than two-thirds of the residents' consent (half of the land area) was secured, and the designation procedure was completed through reviews by the Central Urban Planning Committee and the Central Land Expropriation Committee. The Ministry of Land expects that after integrated review, the project plan will be approved in 2027 and construction can begin in 2029.
With this designation, a housing supply base of 1,386 households has been established in the area. Lee Kyung-ho, Director General of Urban Housing Supply at the Ministry of Land, said, "To expand housing supply in high-demand urban areas, we plan to promptly promote urban complex projects and designate more than 10,000 households in complex districts throughout this year."
Meanwhile, the candidate site on the east side of Saejeol Station, where the participation intention rate was calculated to be less than half, will not proceed with the project in consideration of residents' opinions.
