On the 18th, a computer system failure at the Korea Exchange caused stock trading to be halted for about 7 minutes.
According to the Korea Exchange on that day, a computer system failure occurred in the KOSPI market from 11:37 AM to 11:44 AM, delaying stock trade executions. As a result, price checks and order executions were not possible through trading systems such as securities firms' HTS.
A representative from a securities firm explained, "Due to the exchange failure, orders in the KOSPI market were delayed or rejected." It was reported that trading on the alternative exchange NextTrade proceeded normally.
The exchange identified the cause of the trade execution system delay as a failure related to the trading of Dongyang Steel Pipe. The Korea Exchange KOSPI Market Headquarters stated, "Currently, all stocks except Dongyang Steel Pipe are trading normally," and "Once the cause is identified, trading of Dongyang Steel Pipe will resume." Earlier, trading of Dongyang Steel Pipe was suspended at 12:05 PM that day.
The exchange said, "We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to investors due to this computer system failure," and added, "We will identify the cause and investor inconvenience issues, prepare measures to prevent recurrence, and do our best to stabilize the system."
