Formation of a Street-Type Startup Cluster Centered Around Startup Park
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 18th that it held an opening ceremony for the Daejeon Startup Park, an innovative startup cluster. The newly opened Daejeon Startup Park is a space jointly created by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and Daejeon City to provide a foundation where startups can freely communicate and interact with investors, large and medium-sized enterprises, universities, and other related organizations to grow. It is the second Startup Park to open, following the Incheon Startup Park, which opened in 2021.
The Daejeon street-type startup cluster is planned to consist of a total of 10 buildings with about 100 office spaces, including the anchor building, Startup Park, and nine surrounding annex buildings. Among the annex buildings, the S-Bridge (3 buildings) is created and operated by Shinhan Financial Group, and the H-Bridge (3 buildings) is developed by Hana Bank and is scheduled to open in the first half of this year. It is said to be meaningful in that it aims to create a sustainable startup ecosystem led by the private sector.
The Daejeon Creative Economy Innovation Center, which operates the Daejeon Startup Park, plans to focus on fostering science and technology-based startups specialized in the region. As part of this, it supports the transfer of public technologies utilizing new technologies from government-funded research institutes and universities in the Daejeon area to help deep-tech startups secure competitiveness. Additionally, to help startups and talented personnel settle down, housing costs will be supported for employees of companies residing in the Daejeon Startup Park, and rental fees will be supported in the future for graduated startups that settle in Daejeon.
Lim Jeong-wook, Director of the Startup Venture Innovation Office at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, said, “Startup Parks are spaces where startups and related organizations are physically concentrated to interact with each other, and the Daejeon Startup Park will be a key place in the Daejeon startup ecosystem, a city centered on scientific entrepreneurship,” adding, “The Ministry of SMEs and Startups will continue to spare no support to establish a regional startup foundation and help promising local startups grow.”
