Foot-and-mouth Disease Outbreak Confirmed at Hanwoo Farm in Yeongam, Jeonnam Jeonnam Provincial Government Office Building View

Jeollanam-do announced that on the 17th, three additional cases of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) were confirmed in Yeongam, and prompt initial quarantine measures are being taken.

The affected farms are located 500 meters from the site of the first FMD outbreak and 10 meters from the third outbreak site. The farm owners reported clinical symptoms such as excessive salivation to the quarantine authorities, and after a detailed examination by the Animal Hygiene Laboratory, the cases were confirmed positive late in the afternoon on the 17th.

All farms are within the initial 3 km quarantine zone, so the designated quarantine area remains unchanged. Only the infected livestock at the affected farms will be selectively culled.

Park Hyunsik, Director of the Agriculture, Livestock and Food Bureau of Jeollanam-do, stated, "FMD can be prevented through vaccination and thorough quarantine measures," and urged, "Livestock farmers should promptly complete vaccination, carefully observe each animal daily, and immediately report any suspicious symptoms such as excessive salivation to the quarantine authorities."

Meanwhile, as of the 17th, there have been a total of eight FMD cases in Jeollanam-do: seven in Yeongam and one in Muan.
