Directing Accident Cause Investigations
The Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board (ARAIB), an independent investigative agency under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, announced on the 17th that aviation expert Kwon Jin-hoe, president of Gyeongsang National University, has been appointed as the 7th chairman. The term is three years, from today until March 16, 2028.

Chairman Kwon graduated from the Department of Aeronautical Engineering at Seoul National University and earned his master's and doctoral degrees in Aerospace Engineering from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).
Since 1997, he has served as a professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Gyeongsang National University, and has held positions such as director of the Aircraft Parts Technology Research Institute and member of the aviation division of the ARAIB (2021?2024). He currently serves as a fellow of the Korean Society for Aeronautical and Space Sciences and co-chairman of the Aerospace Policy Forum.
Chairman Kwon stated, "I will do my best to strengthen the independence of accident investigations and enhance the reliability of the aviation and railway accident investigation system to prevent recurrence of accidents."
