A comparison between the periods before (November 14 to December 13, 2024) and two months after the opening (January 14 to February 13, 2025) of the Daegyeong Line shows that consumption in Gumi City increased by 25.8 billion KRW, marking a 6.6% growth.

In particular, the growth rate of spending by outside visitors (6.34%) far exceeded the increase in external spending by Gumi citizens (2.23%), dispelling concerns about potential outflow of local consumption. Instead, the city has clearly absorbed external consumption, contributing to the revitalization of the local economy.

◆ Consumption Increase Continues Despite End of Year-End Peak

The effect of the Daegyeong Line is evident, as the increase in consumption continued even after the end of the year-end peak season. During the same period in 2023, consumption decreased by 4 billion KRW (1.01%) after the year-end special demand ended; however, this year, the opening of the Daegyeong Line has led to an increase in consumption, injecting new vitality into the local economy.

◆ Expansion of Parking Lots and Transportation Improvements... Enhanced Convenience for Tourists

Gumi City has prepared various support measures to connect the increasing number of visitors to the local economy.

First, in addition to the existing public parking lot at Sagok Station, 60 additional parking spaces have been created, with plans to secure 94 more spaces by the second half of the year.

Public transportation has also been expanded for the convenience of tourists. Since March 4, the number of city bus trips between Gumi Station and Geumosan has been increased from 21 to 31 per day, reducing the interval from 42 minutes to 28 minutes.

◆ Accommodation Fee Refunds and Consumption Promotion Events

Economic support measures to encourage 'stay-type consumption' have also been strengthened.

For the first time in Gyeongbuk Province, a policy has been introduced to refund part of the accommodation fee to out-of-town tourists in the form of 'Gumi Love Gift Certificates.'

Tourists can receive a refund of 2,000 KRW for accommodation under 50,000 KRW, 4,000 KRW for 50,000 to under 100,000 KRW, and 6,000 KRW for 100,000 KRW or more. Tourists can receive these benefits by submitting supporting documents at the Gumi Station Tourist Information Center.

Additionally, to commemorate the designation of the Autonomous Commercial District, a consumption promotion event will be held starting on the 31st, where customers who spend more than 30,000 KRW at stores on Munhwaro will receive a 2,000 KRW Gumi Love Gift Certificate.

This benefit is limited to once per person per day, and the refund location is the Munhwaro Autonomous Commercial District Association (17-1, Gumi Jungang-ro 15-gil). Gumi City and the Munhwaro Autonomous Commercial District Association are working together to boost consumption within the district and increase visitor numbers.

Gumi Mayor Kim Jangho stated, "As the positive effects of the Daegyeong Line opening on the local economy have been proven, we will continue to provide policy support and expand tourism infrastructure to further maximize these benefits."
