Lawsuit Filed Against YouTuber A
for Defamation Over False Information
Regarding Kim Sae-ron
The family of the late actress Kim Sae-ron has filed a lawsuit against YouTube channel operator Mr. A for defamation due to the dissemination of false information.
On the 17th at 2 p.m., Bu Ji-seok, the legal representative from the law firm, held a press conference in front of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and announced this.
The family’s side stated that among the videos posted on Mr. A’s channel related to Kim, the claim that Kim fabricated a story by posting photos implying a romantic relationship with actor Kim Soo-hyun on social media, despite not dating him, is false information.
Attorney Bu said, "We hope that the fact that the deceased’s death is causally linked to Mr. A’s dissemination of false information will be fully reflected in sentencing and that strict punishment will be imposed," adding, "We plan to file additional lawsuits regarding other videos in the future."
Kim Soo-hyun is suspected of having dated Kim Sae-ron for six years starting when she was a minor in 2015. There are also allegations that Kim Soo-hyun’s agency pressured Kim Sae-ron, who was then their contracted actress, to repay a penalty of 700 million won. The family claims that Gold Medalist, Kim Soo-hyun’s agency, sent two certified letters on this matter.
Attorney Bu stated, "After the agency sent the first certified letter, Kim Sae-ron sent a text message to Kim Soo-hyun saying ‘Please save me,’ and Kim Soo-hyun responded by sending the second certified letter."
On the 17th, Jisuk Bu, lead attorney of the law firm Buyu representing the family of Kim Sae-ron, held a press conference in front of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency to file a complaint against YouTuber Lee Jin-ho. Regarding the second certified letter, Attorney Bu said, "It contained threats of legal action against posting photos and instructions not to contact Kim Soo-hyun and the agency’s actors," adding, "After sending the second certified letter, there was no contact from Kim Soo-hyun, and other actors from the agency who were previously reachable also did not respond." It also included a statement that if photos related to Kim Soo-hyun were posted on social media causing damage to the tvN drama 'Queen of Tears,' which was airing at the time starring Kim Soo-hyun, compensation would be sought.
Attorney Bu said, "It is hard to even imagine how much mental anguish the deceased endured," and added, "I do not understand why they are waiting for contact from the family through a public statement." He also mentioned, "We are considering legal action against Kim Soo-hyun’s side as well."
When asked for a statement by Asia Economy, a representative from Kim Soo-hyun’s agency said, "We are currently organizing our position," and refrained from further comment.
