Choe Son Hui Meets Russian Deputy Foreign Minister... To Review Implementation of North Korea-Russia Treaty

As ceasefire negotiations in the Russia-Ukraine war gained momentum, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister met consecutively with North Korea's Foreign Minister and Deputy Foreign Minister.

On the 16th, the Korean Central News Agency reported that Choe Son-hui, North Korea's Foreign Minister, met with a Russian Foreign Ministry delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko in Pyongyang the previous day. North Korean Foreign Ministry officials and Alexander Matsegora, the Russian ambassador to North Korea, were also reportedly present.

On the same day, a meeting was held between Kim Jong-gyu, North Korea's Deputy Foreign Minister, and Deputy Foreign Minister Rudenko.

The news agency stated that during the talks, both sides "actively promoted bilateral exchanges and cooperation in accordance with the agreements made at the North Korea-Russia summit in June last year and the spirit of the 'Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership,' and specifically discussed practical measures to strengthen mutual support and cooperation on the international stage, reaching a consensus." It added, "The talks were conducted in a friendly atmosphere."

This visit and meeting appear to be a review of the implementation of the treaty signed between North Korea and Russia last year. Both deputy ministers were government representatives responsible for ratifying the North Korea-Russia treaty.
