Jeong Seungyun, Busan Superintendent Candidate, "Will Actively Promote Free Kindergarten Education"

Jung Seungyun, the unified moderate-conservative candidate for Busan Superintendent of Education, met with early childhood education stakeholders on the 14th as his first official schedule after registering his candidacy, to discuss the necessity of 'free kindergarten education'.

On this day, Jung Seungyun visited the Busan Kindergarten Association in the afternoon and held a policy discussion with association officials.

Jung has previously presented the promotion of free kindergarten education as one of the core pledges in this Busan Superintendent of Education by-election, emphasizing that every child in Busan should be able to receive quality education without discrimination.

To achieve this, he plans to establish an 'Expert Advisory Committee' directly under the superintendent for each field, improve the treatment of private kindergarten teachers, and activate parent-teacher early childhood education communities.

Education offices in nearby regions of Busan are already implementing or expanding free education for private kindergartens.

The Busan Kindergarten Association stated, "Every young child in Busan has the right to receive free education equally, regardless of whether they attend public or private institutions or their district," adding, "It is discriminatory for parents to bear higher educational costs just because their children attend private kindergartens or live in Busan."

Jung Seungyun responded, "I believe that free kindergarten education is fully feasible within the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education's budget," and added, "Since foundational literacy skills must be developed in kindergarten, I intend to actively promote free education."

Jung Seungyun has presented strengthening literacy education from kindergarten and conducting literacy diagnostic assessments upon entering elementary school as his top policy pledge.
