Kim, Former Secretary General, Indicted in December Last Year
on Charges of Preferential Hiring of His Son
The People Power Party's Central Ethics Committee on the 14th initiated disciplinary procedures against former Secretary General of the Central Election Commission Kim Se-hwan, who has been indicted on charges of preferential hiring of his son.
Previously, Kim, a responsible party member of the People Power Party, registered as a preliminary candidate for the by-election for Ganghwa County Governor in Incheon held in July last year after his retirement and participated in the party's primary election.
However, it was revealed that in 2019, Kim exerted undue influence to have his son hired as a level 8 public official at the Ganghwa County Election Commission under the Incheon City Election Commission and unlawfully transferred his son to the headquarters of the Incheon City Election Commission within a year of hiring (charges of abuse of authority, obstruction of exercise of rights, and violation of the National Public Service Act), leading to his indictment without detention in December last year.
In response, the People Power Party's Central Ethics Committee unanimously resolved yesterday to initiate disciplinary procedures ex officio and notified Kim to submit explanatory materials by the regular meeting on the 10th of next month.
