Exploring the Role and Future of the Media in Korea-Japan Relations
Dongseo University will host the 'Busan-Fukuoka Journalist Forum,' with a large number of journalists and researchers from both Korea and Japan participating, on the 15th at the Dongseo University Centum Campus Convention Hall.
This forum, held as a commemorative event for the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan, aims to shed new light on the role of the media in Korea-Japan relations and discuss ways for the media to contribute to sustainable development from both academic and journalistic perspectives.
This forum was proposed and realized at the 17th 'Busan-Fukuoka Forum' (Korean chair: Lee Jangho, former chairman of BS Financial Group) held in Busan last year, and is expected to serve as an important opportunity to invigorate media exchanges between Korea and Japan.
At the opening ceremony, Jang Jeguk, president of Dongseo University, will deliver the opening address, while Oscar Tsuyoshi, Consul General of Japan in Busan, and Ishihara Susumu, chairman of the Fukuoka-Busan Forum, are scheduled to give congratulatory remarks.
The three sessions that follow will discuss from various angles how the media in both countries have documented their relationship so far and what direction they should take in the future.
The first session will be held under the theme 'Korea-Japan Relations and the Role of the Media.' Lee Wansu, professor at Dongseo University, will present 'How Has the Korean Media Documented 60 Years of Korea-Japan Relations?' and Sakurai Izumi, former reporter at Asahi Shimbun, will give a lecture on 'The Role of Mass Media in Korea-Japan Relations.' This will be followed by an in-depth discussion involving six researchers and journalists specializing in Korea-Japan media relations.
The second session will focus on 'Reporting on Korea-Japan Relations in the Busan and Kyushu Regions,' highlighting the role of regional media. Cho Youngmi, reporter at Busan Ilbo, will present 'Reporting on Korea-Japan Relations by Regional Media in Busan and Kyushu: 23 Years of Exchange between Busan Ilbo and Nishinippon Shimbun,' and Ikeda Go, reporter at Nishinippon Shimbun, will give a presentation on 'Joining Hands for a Better Future: The Role of Local Media in Korea and Japan.'
The third session will feature a comprehensive discussion under the theme 'For More Sustainable Bilateral Relations.' Jang Jeguk, president of Dongseo University, will serve as moderator, with all participants exchanging opinions on the development of Korea-Japan relations.
Jang Jeguk, president of Dongseo University, who is organizing this forum, said, "I am pleased that such a meaningful meeting is being held where major journalists from both Korea and Japan can gather to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations. It is very significant to shed light on Korea-Japan relations from various perspectives through exchanges among journalists who play a key role in shaping public opinion in both countries."
