The Economic Welfare Committee of the Gwangsan District Council in Gwangju recently held a forum titled "Exploring Ways to Utilize Gwangju Songjeong Station Plaza with Citizens," it announced on the 14th.
About 50 people, including executives from the Gwangju Songjeong Station Area Development Citizens' Movement Headquarters, local residents, Gwangsan district council members, and related public officials, attended the forum to share the current status of the plaza's development and discuss ways to revitalize it.
Im Hanpil, co-representative of the Citizens' Movement Headquarters, who gave the keynote presentation, emphasized, "Gwangju Songjeong Station Plaza is not just a simple park, but a place where people gather and share culture. It is urgent to improve the narrow station and the surrounding landscape."
During the discussion, participants agreed that in order to make Gwangju Songjeong Station a representative plaza of Gwangju, not only cooperation between the central government and Gwangju City is necessary, but also communication with local residents to establish a sustainable business model. Concerns were also raised about the inconvenience and safety issues caused by the installation of sculptures, as well as the need to improve accessibility for people with disabilities and consider the convenience of use for socially disadvantaged groups. In addition, there was a suggestion to provide various attractions for users of Gwangju Songjeong Station by linking it with local tourism resources such as Jangnok Wetland, 1913 Songjeong Station Market, and Hwangnyonggang Ecological Trail 30.
Kim Youngsun, Chairperson of the Economic Welfare Committee, said, "Gwangju Songjeong Station is a symbol of the region and an innovative space that will drive development," adding, "We will support the revitalization of the plaza so that it can widely promote the charm of Gwangsan District and serve as a foundation for mutual regional development."
