Jeonnam Governor Youngrok Kim is presiding over an emergency quarantine measures inspection meeting on the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease at a Korean beef farm in Yeongam County at the disaster situation room of the provincial government office on the morning of the 14th. Kim Yungrok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, convened an emergency disaster response meeting on the 14th following an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease at a Hanwoo cattle farm in Yeongam. He emphasized the importance of farm-level quarantine and vaccination of all cloven-hoofed livestock farms, urging full efforts to prevent the spread.

The affected farm is raising 162 Hanwoo cattle. The farm owner reported clinical symptoms such as excessive salivation to quarantine authorities on the 13th. After a detailed inspection by the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency, the case was confirmed positive on the morning of the 14th.

Jeollanam-do has taken swift initial quarantine measures and is making every effort to prevent further spread. As soon as the suspected case was reported, two members of the initial quarantine team from the Livestock Health Control Center were dispatched to control access to the farm and conduct disinfection. A provincial field supervisor was also sent to investigate the surrounding environment and analyze the cause of the outbreak.

All Hanwoo cattle at the affected farm are being promptly culled, and a 3 km radius around the outbreak site has been designated as a quarantine zone, with restrictions on movement, intensified disinfection, and monitoring. No additional suspected cases have been reported so far.

The foot-and-mouth disease crisis alert level for the seven cities and counties adjacent to Yeongam?Mokpo, Naju, Hwasun, Jangheung, Gangjin, Haenam, and Muan?has been raised from "Attention" to "Severe." Additionally, a 48-hour standstill order has been issued for all cloven-hoofed livestock farms (cattle, pigs, goats, deer, etc.), related workers, and vehicles until 8 a.m. on the 16th.

All available disinfection resources, including 99 joint disinfection teams and 150 disinfection vehicles owned by cities and counties, have been mobilized to strengthen disinfection efforts. Emergency vaccination is being carried out for all cloven-hoofed livestock farms in Yeongam and the seven neighboring cities and counties, while simultaneous vaccination will be conducted for cattle and goat farms in other areas.

Governor Kim Yungrok urged, "Cloven-hoofed livestock farmers must thoroughly disinfect livestock farms, vehicles, and nearby roads to prevent horizontal transmission of foot-and-mouth disease."
