"Blocked School Routes"... Gwangju Office of Education to Address Commute Issues

The inconvenience faced by students commuting to Daekwang Girls' High School and Seojin Girls' High School in Gwangju has continued for four months, prompting the Gwangju Office of Education to take active steps to resolve the issue.

Superintendent Lee Jungseon visited the school route of Daekwang Girls' High School on the morning of the 14th to inspect the difficulties students face on their way to school and to listen to the opinions of students and school officials.

The school route for both schools became inconvenient after a private developer exercised ownership rights last November and placed a container on one lane of the two-lane road. The conflict between the Hongbok Academy school foundation and the actual landowner has prolonged, leaving the students' difficulties unresolved.

The city Office of Education has been seeking solutions by continuing discussions with the actual landowner. On the 12th, Superintendent Lee Jungseon convened an emergency countermeasure meeting, attended by the acting chairman of Hongbok Academy, the principal of Daekwang Girls' High School, and foundation officials, to discuss possible solutions.

The Office of Education believes that normalizing the Hongbok Academy foundation is a priority for resolving the school route issue. If normalization through the founder (former board members) is difficult, the interim board plans to recruit external financial contributors to ensure procedural legitimacy and transparency. A legal representative will be appointed to oversee the normalization process, and the foundation will assign dedicated personnel to handle the matter. If the school route issue becomes prolonged, legal action against the landowner is also being considered.

Superintendent Lee stated, "Creating a safe educational environment for students is the most important priority," and added, "We will promptly push for the normalization of Hongbok Academy and spare no effort to resolve the school route issue."
