Chungnam Province Selects Winners of 'World Water Day' Drawing Contest

Chungnam Province announced on the 14th that Lee Chaeryeong (Cheonan Elementary School), Park Seoyeon (Saesaem Elementary School), and Choi Yeona (Saesaem Middle School) were awarded the grand prize in the open drawing contest held to commemorate 'World Water Day 2025' on the 22nd.

This year’s World Water Day theme is ‘Glacier Preservation.’ Chungnam Province hosted this contest to raise awareness of the importance of water and environmental protection, highlighting practical measures to prevent glacier loss due to climate change and strategies to protect water resources as glaciers disappear.

A total of 197 entries were submitted from 70 schools, including 164 entries from 47 elementary schools and 38 entries from 23 middle schools. The judging panel consisted of members from the Chungnam Province Water Management Policy Division, the Chungnam Provincial Office of Education Future Talent Division, and the Chungnam branch of the Korean Fine Arts Association.

The grand prize-winning works?Lee Chaeryeong’s “Don’t Worry! I’ll Protect You,” Park Seoyeon’s “Practices We Must Share for Glacier Preservation,” and Choi Yeona’s “Our Efforts to Create Eco-Friendly Glaciers from Our Polluted Water”?received high marks for relevance to the theme, artistic quality, and creativity.

Other awardees include Lee Hyoeun (Asan Gongsu Elementary School), Park Juwon (Tapdong Elementary School), Seung Seolho (Naepo Middle School) for the first prize, and Jeong Harin (Saesaem Elementary School), Lee Hyojeong (Asan Elementary School), Kim Minsang (Cheonan Shinbu Elementary School), Oh Jeongyeon (Asan Elementary School), Lee Hyoeun (Onyang Girls’ Middle School), and Jeong Heewon (Yeonmu Girls’ Middle School) for the excellence prize. Additionally, 15 students received special awards and 30 students received honorable mentions.

The awards ceremony will take place at the ‘World Water Day’ commemorative event on the 20th at Seosan Culture Center, and the winning works will be available on the Chungnam Province website. The province also plans to exhibit the winning works at the Chungnam Provincial Government Complex in April.

A Chungnam Province official stated, “We hope this contest serves as an opportunity for the younger generation to realize the importance of water,” and added, “We will continue to hold such contests to raise public interest in clean water.”
