Inspection of 10 Large Construction Sites in Redevelopment Areas Including Yongdap-dong 108-1 and Haengdang 7 District, and 37 Hazardous Facilities in Maintenance Zones Such as the Seongsu Strategic District by March 21
Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) announced that it will conduct safety inspections on a total of 47 hazardous facilities, including old houses and retaining walls (stone walls), within private construction sites and redevelopment project areas until March 21.
As a proactive measure to respond to safety risks during the thawing season, inspections will be carried out for about three weeks starting from February 28. This includes 10 large construction sites in redevelopment and reconstruction project areas such as Yongdap-dong 108-1 and Haengdang 7 District, as well as 37 hazardous facilities within maintenance zones like the Seongsu Strategic District.
The construction sites subject to inspection include 4 finishing works, 1 framework work, 2 excavation works, and 3 sites where construction has been halted. The safety of adjacent old houses, retaining walls, slopes, signs of road subsidence nearby, ground cracks around earth retaining structures, and the condition of support braces will be checked.
The inspections will be conducted by a joint inspection team composed of contractors, supervisors, responsible public officials, and external experts. Inspection details will be managed using the ‘Building Safety Management System.’ When hazards are found, external experts register them in the system, and contractors then register the results of corrective actions.
Hazardous facilities within the maintenance zones include 28 houses, 7 fences and retaining walls, and 2 steep slopes. The focus will be on checking ground subsidence, cracks and uneven settlement of buildings, roof leaks, structural cracks and deformations in major components, and the safety status of retaining walls, stone walls, and fences. Public officials responsible for each zone will carry out the inspections, with external experts joining as needed.
Minor issues found during inspections will be immediately corrected on-site, while other identified problems will be reported to the managing entities for repair, reinforcement, or demolition to eliminate risks.
Additionally, if poor workmanship or supervision is discovered, administrative actions will be taken, and construction may be ordered to stop if necessary. Facilities with a high risk of disaster will be designated as Class 3 facilities and regularly inspected.
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, "Through focused safety inspections during the thawing season in redevelopment and reconstruction project areas, we will preemptively eliminate potential risks to thoroughly protect the safety of our residents." He added, "We will continue to prioritize safety and work diligently to ensure that residents can live their daily lives with peace of mind and comfort."
