Dongjak-gu, First Digging of the 2nd 'Bondong Eoulmadang Art Hall' for One Performance Venue per Neighborhood Initiative

Dongjak-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Il-ha) announced on the 14th that it has begun construction of the ‘Bondong Eoulmadang Art Hall’ to expand local cultural and artistic infrastructure.

Dongjak-gu, First Digging of the 2nd 'Bondong Eoulmadang Art Hall' for One Performance Venue per Neighborhood Initiative Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak District, is giving a greeting speech at the opening ceremony of the 'Sangdo Eoul Madang Art Hall' in November 2023. Provided by Dongjak District.

The district has been promoting the ‘One Neighborhood, One Performance Venue’ project as a campaign pledge of the 8th local government to broadly provide cultural life opportunities to residents and support the activities of local cultural artists. According to the district, the Bondong Eoulmadang Art Hall is the second public art performance venue following the ‘Sangdo Eoulmadang Art Hall,’ which opened in November 2023.

The basement level 1 of the former Bondong Comprehensive Social Welfare Center building (79 Noryangjin-ro 32-gil), which became vacant due to the establishment of the Heukseok Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, will be transformed into a performance hall. It will feature a stage 10 meters in length suitable for small-scale performances and rehearsals, with a seating capacity of 60 to 70 seats, covering a dedicated area of 196㎡.

Once remodeling work, including interior design and installation of sound and lighting equipment, is completed, the district plans to open the art hall in May and utilize it as a multipurpose cultural and artistic performance venue capable of hosting cultural lectures and events.

Meanwhile, the first venue, ‘Sangdo Eoulmadang Art Hall,’ had a successful year last year with 202 bookings and a total of 4,787 users. It provided rehearsal spaces to local cultural artists through regular bookings and supported community spaces for general residents on an as-needed basis, establishing itself as a representative cultural facility in the area.

Mayor Park Il-ha said, “As residents’ living standards have risen, the demand to enjoy cultural life has naturally increased. We will continue to lead the development of local culture and arts through the continuous expansion of cultural infrastructure.”
