Baekho, President of Seoul Metro, Conducts Safety Inspection at Elevator Installation Site of Line 5 Kkachisan Station

Baekho, President of Seoul Metro, visited Kkachisan Station on Line 5 on the 12th to inspect the elevator installation site aimed at expanding the one-station one-route system.

The elevator at Kkachisan Station was under construction with a goal to be completed by December last year. However, unexpected occurrences of extremely hard bedrock caused increased worker fatigue and frequent equipment failures, significantly slowing down the excavation process and creating major difficulties. Nevertheless, safe construction was pursued, with excavation completed by April and the entire construction scheduled to be finished by September this year.

After touring the site, President Baekho warned that rushing the construction to shorten the delayed schedule due to bedrock removal could lead to safety accidents, and urged that special attention be paid to safety during the remaining period to complete the work.

After inspecting Kkachisan Station, President Baekho visited Daerim Station on Line 2 to check the crew change area at the platform dummy section (both ends of the platform) and the safety fences installed to prevent passenger entry. He carefully examined the structural stability and durability of the improved safety fences and checked for any risks of unauthorized passenger entry into the dummy sections.

President Baekho stated, “We plan to complete the elevator construction at Kkachisan Station without delay by September this year, securing the one-station one-route system at all 276 stations,” adding, “We will do our best to create a more convenient and safer subway environment for transportation-vulnerable groups and citizens.”
