The First Discussion Meeting of the 2025 Uijeongbu Research and Development Forum
Emphasizing the Importance of Vision and Policy for Sustainable City Growth

The discussion meeting, hosted by the Uijeongbu Research and Development Forum, was attended by various sectors including Mayor Kim Dong-geun, Research Chairman Kim Seon-bong, academia, local experts, and citizens. The event provided time for discussions on sustainable growth and the realization of the city’s vision.
The event began with an opening address by Chairman Kim Seon-bong and a congratulatory speech by Mayor Kim Dong-geun, followed by presentations on ▲ ‘Policy Establishment Plans for Job Creation and Attraction of High-tech Companies in Uijeongbu’ by Song Dong-seop, Chairman of Dongnam Health University, and ▲ ‘Plans for Ecological Industry Development and Tourism Resource Utilization in Uijeongbu’ by Kim Jang-gi, Director of the Korea Competency Development Education Research Institute. The session concluded with a comprehensive panel discussion.
Chairman Song Dong-seop explained the importance of attracting and fostering high-tech industries to create quality jobs. He also emphasized that active investment and policy support, including infrastructure expansion, strengthening industry-academia-research cooperation, tax benefits, and business-friendly administrative services, must be backed.
Director Kim Jang-gi proposed the establishment of the ‘National DMZ Biological Resources Center’ utilizing the city’s geographical advantage as an intermediate zone overseeing the east-west axis of the Korean Peninsula. He also suggested plans to develop ecological and tourism industries through ecological environment research, education, and exhibitions related to the Demilitarized Zone and border areas.
Mayor Kim Dong-geun stated, “We must secure a self-sufficient urban foundation and realize Uijeongbu’s abundant development potential through policy setting and vision establishment that respond to changes such as the 4th Industrial Revolution and digital transformation.” He added, “I hope that the discussions from this forum will be developed into creative policies and practical development plans that allow Uijeongbu to take a step forward.”
Since its establishment in January, the forum, which successfully held its first discussion meeting, will continue to propose directions for city development through ongoing research and share them with citizens.
