The Chungnam Fire Headquarters Special Judicial Police announced on the 13th that they have booked and are investigating a woman in her 60s, identified as Ms. A, on charges of assaulting a paramedic in Asan.


Ms. A is accused of assaulting a paramedic while being transported to a hospital in Mojong-dong on the 9th.


Assaulting a firefighter can result in up to five years in prison or a fine of up to 50 million won.


The Special Judicial Police stated, "Ms. A was intoxicated at the time of the incident," and added, "We are currently investigating the motive for the crime."


The Asan Fire Station also stated in a press release on the same day, "Paramedics are precious family members to someone and are important personnel who protect the lives of myself and my family," and emphasized, "We will respond strongly in accordance with laws and principles to any verbal or physical violence against paramedics who work with a sense of duty."


Meanwhile, over the past five years, there have been a total of 35 cases of assaults on paramedics in Chungnam, with 6 of these cases occurring in Asan, the highest number in the region.


There were a total of 35 perpetrators, with 30 of them (85.6%) committing the crime while intoxicated.
