21 Local R&BD Institutions Attend
Exploring Strategies to Secure Growth Engines for New Industries
On the 13th, the city of Pohang held the 'Pohang R&BD Agency Working Council' at the City Hall's main conference room, attended by more than 30 working-level officials from 21 R&BD institutions, including local universities and research/support organizations.
At the meeting, Pohang City explained its strategies for attracting the 'National AI Computing Center,' a project it is pursuing with utmost determination, emphasizing that Pohang is the best candidate nationwide for the AI Computing Center, fully equipped with the necessary infrastructure such as highly skilled personnel, power supply, and vast amounts of data.
Additionally, the city provided explanations on key municipal projects such as the establishment of the POSTECH Medical School and strategies for securing national investment budgets, discussed major ongoing projects of each institution, and explained the necessity and promotion plans for the 'Urban Convergence Special Zone' to attract talent and companies.
Kwon Hyukwon, Director of the Employment and Economy Bureau, stated, "In order to overcome the growing domestic and international uncertainties, it is essential to expand growth engines centered on new industries," and added, "In particular, since Pohang is the optimal location for the establishment of the National AI Computing Center, I urge all R&BD institutions to fully pool their capabilities."
At the upcoming 'Pohang R&BD Agency Directors' Council' to be held on the 24th, visions and strategies to lead Pohang for the next 100 years will be established based on the key projects of each institution and new initiatives for fostering new industries discussed at this meeting.
