At a recent monthly meeting, they decided to launch a '10,000 KRW Donation Campaign per Person' to encourage general Yeoju citizens who sympathize with the purpose of erecting the monument to voluntarily participate in the fundraising.

As a result of discussions among the members, it was decided to carry out the '10,000 KRW Donation Campaign per Person' in the future to enable general Yeoju citizens who sympathize with the purpose of erecting the monument to voluntarily participate in the fundraising without feeling burdened.

Cho Seong-ung, president of Yeojanghoe, said, “Since the completion of the Four Major Rivers Restoration Project in 2011, Yeoju has been freed from the floods and droughts that plagued the city every year. Therefore, I ask that more citizens actively participate in the ‘10,000 KRW Donation Campaign per Person’ with a grateful heart.”

Kim Chun-seok, president of the commemorative project association, added, “When a great fire in 1856 burned down about 1,000 houses in the city, Yeoju residents erected a monument to Kim Byeong-gi in Changdong (formerly Chang-ri), who donated 1,000 seok of rice to aid the disaster victims. Continuing this tradition, we hope that citizens will respond enthusiastically to the 10,000 KRW donation campaign for the Four Major Rivers Restoration Project monument.”

Yeoju Mayor Lee Chung-woo visited the meeting to encourage the members of Yeojanghoe who are promoting the fundraising project and said, “It is very commendable that Yeoju citizens who have benefited from the Four Major Rivers Restoration Project voluntarily raise funds to erect a monument expressing their gratitude. This will serve as a model for other cities and counties in the future. I hope the fundraising project achieves its intended success.”
