Candidate registration for the Asan mayoral by-election, scheduled for the 2nd of next month, began on the 13th.
On this day, Oh Sehyun from the Democratic Party, Jeon Mankwon from the People Power Party, and Cho Deokho from the Saemirae Democratic Party completed their registrations at the Asan Election Commission.
Democratic Party candidate Oh Sehyun stated in a press release, "Due to the election crime caused by false information from former mayor Park Kyunggui of the People Power Party, an unnecessary election is being held again, costing 2.3 billion won of Asan citizens' tax money. Responsibility should be held against the People Power Party for overturning their promise not to nominate a candidate in a by-election caused by their own fault."
People Power Party candidate Jeon Mankwon also said, "For the swift stabilization of city administration and revitalization of the local economy, a clean and competent candidate must become mayor. I await the voters' wise choice."
Saemirae candidate Cho Deokho only reported the fact of his registration without making a separate statement, while Kim Gwangman, a preliminary candidate from the Jatong Party, announced, "I will register tomorrow."
Meanwhile, the candidate registration deadline is until 6 p.m. on the 14th, and the official election campaign is set to begin on the 20th.
Early voting will be held on the 28th and 29th from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., followed by the main vote on the 2nd of next month.
