Gijang-gun Launches 'Smart Tag' Program to Prevent Missing Dementia Patients

Gijang-gun (Governor Jung Jongbok) will launch the 'Smart Tag Support Project' at the Public Health Center Dementia Relief Center starting in March to prevent elderly dementia patients from going missing.

The 'Smart Tag' is a device that can be attached to the belongings of elderly dementia patients at risk of wandering or going missing, allowing guardians to check the real-time location of the patient through a smartphone app. It helps prevent dementia patients from going missing and supports their swift discovery and safe return home if they do go missing.

The beneficiaries of this support project are Gijang-gun residents who are 'home-based dementia patients' at risk of wandering or going missing, or 'cognitively impaired individuals' who have previously been reported missing. Common requirements include ▲registration at the Gijang-gun Dementia Relief Center ▲having a guardian (who uses a Galaxy smartphone) who will apply for and manage the wandering detection device ▲completion of pre-fingerprint registration at the police station, among others.

Eligible individuals will receive one smart tag and one keyring case each. Notably, the previously distributed wristwatch-type GPS devices required frequent charging and incurred communication fees after the free usage period ended, which caused inconvenience. In contrast, the new smart tag can be used for up to 500 days with a single battery and does not incur any additional communication fees. However, only guardians using Galaxy smart devices can use this service.

To apply for support, guardians must first contact the Gijang-gun Dementia Relief Center by phone and then visit in person to apply. For further details regarding the application, please contact the Gijang-gun Dementia Relief Center.

Jung Jongbok, Governor of Gijang-gun, stated, "With the aging population and the increasing number of dementia patients, we will further strengthen the safety net for dementia patients."

The Gijang-gun Dementia Relief Center provides various services for dementia patients, including ▲provision of care supplies ▲support for dementia treatment and management costs ▲provision of wandering identification tags ▲operation of dementia patient shelters, and more.
