Following the Constitutional Court's dismissal of the impeachment motion, Prosecutor General Lee Chang-su of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, who returned to duty after 98 days, stated regarding the investigation related to Mr. Myeong Tae-gyun, "I will carry out the investigation diligently with the attitude that I bear all final responsibility." With the return of Prosecutor General Lee, it is expected that the handling of major cases pending at the Central District Prosecutors' Office will gain momentum.


On the afternoon of the 13th, around 1:30 PM, Prosecutor General Lee met with reporters on his way to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office and said, "When I was suspended from duty, I said I would return quickly, but it took a little longer than expected," and added, "I am grateful for the hard work of the members of the Central District Prosecutors' Office who worked hard to fill the nearly 100-day gap."


Regarding the Supreme Prosecutors' Office's decision to forgo an immediate appeal against the court's ruling to cancel the detention of President Yoon Seok-yeol, he responded, "I will receive a detailed report and coordinate well with the Supreme Prosecutors' Office to ensure there is no confusion."


About the Constitutional Court's decision, he said, "Since my appointment, I can say that the investigation team has diligently conducted the necessary investigations. I understand that the justices also acknowledged this." Regarding other cases such as the Democratic Party's cash envelope allegations, he explained, "I will review the investigation and trial status so far and conduct necessary investigations according to law and principles."


After arriving at work, Prosecutor General Lee plans to immediately review the backlog of work, including receiving reports on major case investigations from the first, second, and third deputy prosecutors. During the period of his suspension, First Deputy Prosecutor Park Seung-hwan acted on his behalf at the Central District Prosecutors' Office. Second Deputy Prosecutor Gong Bong-suk and Third Deputy Prosecutor Lee Seong-sik also shared the workload of Fourth Deputy Prosecutor Jo Sang-won, who was also impeached.
