Democratic Party: "The important thing is to remove Yoon... Not an impeachment overuse"

The Democratic Party of Korea stated regarding the dismissal of all impeachment trials against four individuals including Choi Jae-hyung, the Chairperson of the Board of Audit and Inspection, that "Ultimately, the important thing is to promptly set the verdict date for Yoon Seok-yeol and remove him from office."

Cho Seung-rae, the senior spokesperson for the Democratic Party, introduced in a statement that "Today, all impeachment trial cases against Chairperson Choi Jae-hyung of the Board of Audit and Inspection and three prosecutors including Lee Chang-soo, Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, were dismissed," and explained, "The Constitutional Court decided that the Chairperson of the Board of Audit and Inspection's actions were not serious enough to warrant removal from office, but clearly confirmed some illegal acts."

He continued, "Regarding the three prosecutors, the court also found that the grounds for impeachment were not recognized, but the prosecutor Lee Jung-seop, whose impeachment was dismissed, was eventually indicted by the prosecution," and added, "Numerous questions and unclear links surrounding the investigation into the Deutsche Motors stock manipulation case still remain."

Regarding claims that impeachments are being overused, he said, "The Constitutional Court clearly stated that this is not the case," explaining, "It recognized that violations of the Constitution or laws were sufficiently proven to a certain extent, that procedures were properly followed, and that the purpose of preventing recurrence was acknowledged."

Instead, Spokesperson Cho emphasized that the impeachment trial of President Yoon Seok-yeol should be concluded quickly. He expressed concern, saying, "The important thing is to promptly set the verdict date for Yoon Seok-yeol's impeachment trial. At the center of all judicial issues is Yoon Seok-yeol, the suspect leader of the insurrection. Furthermore, social confusion and conflicts caused by Yoon Seok-yeol have intensified, leading to national division and the destabilization of the rule of law."
