RaonSecure Opens Era of Mobile Resident Registration Cards Implemented with Blockchain Technology

RaonSecure has strengthened its position as a leading company in the digital ID market by implementing the 'Mobile Resident Registration Card,' issued to 45 million citizens, using its blockchain technology, following Korea's first digital ID, the 'Mobile Driver's License.'

IT security and authentication platform company RaonSecure (CEO Soonhyung Lee, Jeonga Lee) announced on the 13th that with the nationwide expansion of legally effective mobile resident registration card issuance, all Korean citizens aged 17 and older can conveniently and securely verify their identity using the company's blockchain technology-based mobile ID.

This follows the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's pilot operation of the mobile resident registration card at the end of last December and the phased nationwide expansion of mobile resident registration card issuance starting February 14. From the 14th, residents can apply for the mobile resident registration card at community service centers in Seoul, Busan, and Gwangju, and from the 28th, applications will be accepted at all community service centers and online (Government24) regardless of the applicant's address.

RaonSecure won the contract for the 'Mobile ID Construction and Expansion Service' project commissioned by the Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation to build the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's blockchain-based mobile resident registration card issuance system. RaonSecure supplied its blockchain DID platform 'OmniOne Enterprise' and mobile security solutions for the development of this mobile resident registration card issuance system.

Through the issuance of the mobile resident registration card, the advantages of mobile IDs are now accessible not only to individuals with specific qualifications but to the entire population nationwide. Additionally, the mobile foreigner registration card issuance system, which began issuing in January, was also built on RaonSecure's blockchain DID platform. This demonstrates the significant expansion of RaonSecure's blockchain technology base.

More than 4 million users have been issued mobile IDs built on RaonSecure's blockchain technology. With the start of mobile resident registration card issuance for the entire population, the number of mobile ID users is expected to surge.

RaonSecure's OmniOne Enterprise, which has been applied to the mobile driver's license and mobile national veterans registration card, is a blockchain DID platform implemented with FIDO (biometric authentication) and distributed server nodes. It prevents tampering through the blockchain's 'consensus algorithm' and selectively provides necessary information using 'zero-knowledge proof' technology.

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety's mobile resident registration card, implemented with these technologies, can be used wherever the current resident registration card is accepted, including government offices, banks, airports, hospitals, convenience stores, and elections. Integration with systems at 15 banks has already been completed, allowing real-name verification using the mobile resident registration card when opening accounts, increasing transfer limits, or changing account passwords at branches or through mobile banking apps.

Secured with various security technologies such as blockchain and encryption, the mobile resident registration card can only be issued to one smartphone registered under the individual's name. The issuance process ensures high reliability through visits to community service centers, identity verification, biometric authentication, and contact with a physical resident registration card embedded with an IC chip on the smartphone. Furthermore, in case of smartphone loss, the mobile resident registration card issued on that device can be locked immediately by linking with the telecom provider, rendering it unusable.

Alongside this, RaonSecure has launched 'OmniOneCX VC Verifier,' a mobile ID verification and copy creation solution optimized for blockchain mobile IDs, and has signed supply contracts with major banks. RaonSecure plans to lead innovation in the authentication service market by providing mobile ID-related solutions and services. Furthermore, it aims to lead the digital ID and credential market in the private sector with its blockchain DID platform-based digital student IDs, digital certificates, and more.

Soonhyung Lee, CEO of RaonSecure, stated, “Following the mobile driver's license and mobile national veterans registration card, the issuance of the mobile resident registration card will spread RaonSecure's blockchain DID technology to all Korean citizens, bringing innovation to daily life. As a leading national digital ID company, we will demonstrate our strength on the global stage and contribute to the global expansion of Korea's digital government.”
