Hydrogen Sulfide Odor Detected During Monitoring
Some Companies Provide Gas Masks and Suspend Shipments
An unidentified foul odor was reported at the Yeosu National Industrial Complex in South Jeolla Province, prompting authorities to investigate the possibility of a hazardous chemical leak.
At around 10:20 a.m. on the 13th, a series of reports were made in the Pyeongyeo-dong industrial complex area of Yeosu, stating that there was a strong smell of gas. Fire authorities and related agencies who received the reports are checking for a gas leak, but have not yet identified the exact source of the incident.
Odor monitoring detected the smell of hydrogen sulfide, but it was reported that the concentration was not high enough to pose a direct threat to health. An industrial complex official explained, "It's not enough to cause nausea or headaches, but the distinctive smell is noticeable."
Some companies have provided gas masks to workers as a precaution and temporarily suspended product shipments. Fire and environmental authorities are investigating the cause, considering the possibility of a hazardous substance leak, while closely monitoring for any additional reports.
