Over 57% of Companies Did Not Publish Securities Industry Reports Last Year

Last year, the number of corporate analysis reports published by securities firms on domestically listed companies exceeded 27,000. However, the proportion of listed companies with no reports issued was also close to 60%.

On the 13th, the Korea IR Council Corporate Research Center examined the status of corporate analysis reports issued by securities firms for 2,621 companies listed on the Korea Exchange last year. It was found that a total of 27,099 corporate analysis reports were published throughout 2024, an increase of 8.8% compared to the previous year.

On the other hand, the number of listed companies with no reports issued during the year was 1,496, accounting for 57.1% of all listed companies. This means that information on more than half of the companies is still insufficient.

A concentration of reports according to market size was also confirmed. Reports on KOSPI companies accounted for 74.6%, followed by KOSDAQ (25.4%) and KONEX (0.01%). Among these, reports on large-cap companies with a market capitalization exceeding 500 billion KRW accounted for 80%, while mid-cap (market cap between 100 billion KRW and 500 billion KRW) and small-cap (market cap below 100 billion KRW) accounted for 17.1% and 2.9%, respectively.

The Corporate Research Center stated, "We are making efforts to reduce information asymmetry in the capital market and to raise investors' interest in small and medium-sized enterprises by issuing 51 reports on KONEX-listed companies." It added, "Starting this year, we plan to expand the distribution of reports that include 'Corporate Value Enhancement Plans (Efforts to Enhance Shareholder Value)' content for small and medium-sized listed companies that have disclosed plans to increase corporate value according to the Value-Up Program."
