The development of a 120,000㎡ waterside park around Noonjeo Reservoir in Noonsadong, Gwangmyeong-si, Gyeonggi-do is set to begin in earnest.

Gwangmyeong-si, Gyeonggi-do announced on the 13th that it has secured 61.91 billion KRW in project funds from Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) for the creation of Yeonghwoin Waterside Park and other parks as part of the restoration project for the Greenbelt area damaged by the development of the 'Gwangmyeong Haan 2 Public Housing District.'

This project involves restoring areas equivalent to 10-20% of the Greenbelt land released for development into parks and green spaces. Previously, in September last year, the city received approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport for a project plan to restore 15.4% of the Greenbelt area released in the Haan 2 district.

Through an agreement on the 6th, LH, the project implementer for the Haan 2 district, will bear the restoration costs, and the city will use these funds to create two parks within the district, including Yeonghwoin Waterside Park.

The waterside park project around Noonjeo Reservoir was planned in 2012 but had seen no progress due to financial burdens and complex administrative procedures. However, the city expects the secured budget to accelerate the project.

Yeonghwoin Waterside Park will cover approximately 120,108㎡ near the reservoir. The park will feature a lawn plaza, an ecological lake, an observatory, and a parking lot with 70 spaces. The city also plans to use the secured budget to create an additional park with a large forested area and 13 parking spaces. Notably, the city intends to link the park development project with the restoration and opening of 'Yeonghwoin,' a nationally designated cultural heritage site.

Park Seung-won, mayor of Gwangmyeong-si, said, "This project will transform the area around Noonjeo Reservoir into a nature-friendly park that citizens can enjoy. We will do our best to create a space that goes beyond a simple green area to one where history, nature, ecology, and culture harmoniously coexist."
