Certification Acquired for 200kW-Class Hydrogen Fuel Cell for Ships
Official Entry into the Eco-Friendly Zero-Carbon Ship Market
Hanwha Aerospace announced on the 13th that it has obtained certification for a world-class 200kW-class hydrogen fuel cell for ships, officially entering the eco-friendly zero-carbon ship market.
On the 12th, Hanwha Aerospace received Approval in Principle (AIP) certification from the classification society DNV. AIP is a procedure that verifies the safety of technology application and compliance with international regulations from the basic design stage when building ships equipped with new technologies such as hydrogen fuel cells.

Following last year's AIP certification from the Korean Register (KR), Hanwha Aerospace has now acquired the prestigious DNV certification, enabling it to actively market hydrogen fuel cells for ships in the global market.
The hydrogen fuel cell certified by DNV this time is a Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC). It can generate power even at low temperatures, making it stable and highly energy-efficient, suitable for transportation such as ships. Additionally, its parallel control function allows capacity expansion to the megawatt level, making it applicable to medium and large vessels.
At the end of last year, Hanwha Aerospace developed the world's first immersion-cooled Energy Storage System (ESS), and with this certification, it has laid the foundation to enter the zero-carbon power source market for ships. A company representative stated, "We will secure type certification for ship fuel cells, the next step after AIP, and continue to strengthen our technological competitiveness in the ship development market applying zero-carbon propulsion systems together with Hanwha Ocean."
