Yongsan-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Park Hee-young) has established a new project plan for the "Visiting Public Education" initiative this year and will begin full-scale implementation starting this month. The Visiting Public Education project consists of seven detailed programs: ▲Yongsan Book-Wave Reading Education ▲AI Classroom Dreaming of the Future - 4th Industrial Revolution Education ▲Character Building Stepping Stone Education ▲Exploring Cultural Heritage in Textbooks ▲Exciting Music Journey Visiting Schools ▲Financial Literacy Academy ▲Yongsan-gu Multicultural Student Mentoring.
The Yongsan Book-Wave Reading Education is a school-customized reading program aimed at improving students' literacy skills, conducted in 9 elementary schools with 172 classes, each following a 6-session curriculum. The AI Classroom Dreaming of the Future program addresses the rapidly changing digital era by teaching coding, robotics, virtual reality (VR), and other subjects linked to grade-level curricula. It is operated in 9 elementary schools with 76 classes, each having 6 sessions.
The Character Building Stepping Stone Education supports strengthening competencies for proper character formation. It is conducted twice per class in 10 elementary and middle schools with 114 classes. Exploring Cultural Heritage in Textbooks is a field history education program utilizing local resources such as the National Museum of Korea. It provides 2-hour sessions for 28 classes in 8 elementary schools, including transportation support by bus.
The Exciting Music Journey Visiting Schools program, which was conducted individually last year, has expanded its support to 11 elementary, middle, and high schools this year. Through customized classical music performances such as string ensembles, ballerinas, and instrumental collaborations, it enhances students' cultural sensitivity. The Financial Literacy Academy also expanded its support this year from last year's individual projects, operating in 8 elementary, middle, and high schools with 55 classes. It offers financial education to improve financial understanding and foster proper economic independence, conducted twice per grade level.
The Yongsan-gu Multicultural Mentoring program supports the school adaptation of multicultural students from over 30 countries by providing educational expense subsidies to 5 elementary, middle, and high schools. This includes Korean language classes and basic academic support classrooms.
To promote the project, the district recruited applicant schools from January to February this year and selected 23 elementary, middle, and high schools as target schools. The seven project programs were finalized through consultations with school officials, gathering parents' opinions, and discussions with education experts since the second half of last year.
District Mayor Park Hee-young stated, "We have carefully designed this program to actively support cross-curricular subjects that might otherwise be neglected, ensuring students receive professional education. We will create a new model of public education so that our children's learning environment is not limited to the classroom."
Meanwhile, the district will support 231 projects with approximately 2.64 billion KRW in educational expense subsidies during the first half of this year. Subsidies will be granted to schools within this month to improve school environments and implement various educational programs.
