A bakery specialty company, Silla Myunggwa, has halted sales and initiated a recall of its frozen dough products after bacterial counts were found to exceed acceptable levels.

On the 12th, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) announced that the 'Square Sheet Frozen Dough' product manufactured by Silla Myunggwa was found to be non-compliant with bacterial count standards, leading to a suspension of sales and a recall. The recalled product is frozen dough stored in a frozen state, intended to be thawed, shaped, and baked in an oven. The packaging unit is 2200g, with an expiration date of September 3. Currently, sales suspension and recall actions are underway in Changnyeong-gun, Gyeongnam Province.

The MFDS stated, "Sellers who have the recalled food products in stock should stop sales and return them to the business operator," and added, "Consumers who purchased the product should stop consumption and promptly return it to the place of purchase to cooperate with the recall."

In response, Silla Myunggwa explained, "In this inspection, the frozen raw dough product containing yeast should have been tested according to the 'yeast-included raw dough standard,' but due to an error by our staff, the test was requested under the 'yeast-excluded raw dough standard,' resulting in a non-compliance judgment for bacterial count." They further stated, "This was not due to a hygiene issue with the product itself, but a mistake caused by an error in the test request process by our staff."
